SHARE Counselors offer a range of support to all members of the Harvard community including students, staff, faculty, and post-doctoral fellows impacted by harm or who are supporting someone. This support includes:

  • Trauma-informed counseling
  • Education and support groups
  • 24/7 confidential hotline (617) 495-9100
  • Community referrals
  • Advocacy
    • Support in deciding whether or how to connect with a Title IX Resource Coordinator about things such as making a disclosure and seeking supportive measures.
    • Information regarding the University's formal complaint processes.
    • Information regarding legal processes, such as how to file a police report or apply for a restraining order.
    • Accompaniment to meetings, the hospital, court, police, etc.

Survivor Support Group

Purpose: The purpose of this group is to create connections and share wisdom with others impacted by interpersonal violence while reducing a sense of isolation, shame, and blame.

 

About: The Survivor Support Group will meet to cultivate community and safety through knowledge, resource sharing, and mutual support. This group will be closed, which means that after the second session group members will remain consistent and no one new will join the group this semester. If someone is interested in joining after the second session, they will be invited to participate in a future group. We do ask that group members make a commitment to attend all 10 group meetings. While confidentiality in this group is expected, it cannot be guaranteed. If you have any questions or concerns, we are happy to talk through them with you.

 

Timing: 10 weeks. 60 min. sessions.

Coping Skills Group

 

Purpose: The purpose of this group is to continue to grow an understanding of the impacts of trauma and to increase sense of safety, choice, and belonging in the body.

 

About: The Coping Skills Group will meet to cultivate learning, skill-sharing, and mutual support. This group will be closed, which means that after the second session group members will remain consistent and no one new will join the group this semester. If someone is interested in joining after the second session, they will be invited to participate in a future group. We do ask that group members make a commitment to attend all 8 group meetings. While confidentiality in this group is expected, it cannot be guaranteed. If you have any questions or concerns, we are happy to talk through them with you.

 

Timing: 8 weeks. 60 min. sessions.

How to Support a Friend who has Experienced Harm Workshop

Purpose: The purpose of this workshop is to provide tools that participants may use as a supportive friend to reduce isolation, honor self-determination, and provide resources to a survivor. This workshop also aims to reduce the impact of “friend burnout” for peers who are supporting someone who is impacted by harm.

About: This will be a drop-in workshop for 2 ½ hours during the fall semester. Participants may attend as many or as few sessions as they would like. While confidentiality in this group is expected, it cannot be guaranteed. If you have any questions or concerns, we are happy to talk through them with you.

Restorative Practices Workshops

Purpose: The purpose of this workshop is to offer an introduction to core skills, practices, and frameworks used within Restorative and Transformative Justice.

About: Each workshop will engage participants in personal reflection, as well as teach practical tools and theoretical frameworks that can be useful in responding to harm. Sessions will be practice-focused and explore real-life scenarios. Participation will be limited to 15 people. Participants are asked to attend all sessions and maintain confidentiality. While confidentiality in this group is expected, it cannot be guaranteed. If you have any questions or concerns, we are happy to talk through them with you.

    • Introduction to Restorative Justice, Transformative Justice, and Community Accountability
    • Introduction to Pod Mapping
    • Basics of Supporting a Friend who may have Caused Harm
    • How to Offer a Genuine Apology

Vicarious Trauma Prevention for Faculty and Staff

Purpose: The purpose of this meeting space is to bring together faculty/staff who support fellow Harvard community members affected by interpersonal violence and want to improve their own care practices.

About: This intentional gathering will take a deep dive into Part One of the book, Trauma Stewardship: An Everyday Guide to Caring for Self While Caring for Others, by Laura van Dernoot Lipsky and Connie Burk. This text will provide a framework to refine and expand self-care strategies of employees who bear witness to the traumatic experiences of others. This is a drop-in meeting space on secure zoom where participants are encouraged to attend as many of the meetings as their schedule allows: September 28, October 19, November 16, and December 21 at 3:00-4:15 p.m. See hollis.harvard.edu for the e-book version of Trauma Stewardship.

Restorative Yoga Group

Purpose: The purpose of this group is to practice slowing down and learning new embodiment tools through yoga with community. This will include regulating the nervous system, attuning to personal needs, and learning breathwork and meditation skills.

About: The Restorative Yoga Group will meet to practice yoga (physical movement, breathwork, and meditation) and learn how to integrate yoga practices into your daily life. These classes will be taught from a South-Asian perspective that honors the lineage and origins of yoga and explore how we can use these tools to support personal and collective healing.

You do not need to have any prior yoga experience to join. If you have any questions or concerns about this, we are happy to talk through them with you. These classes will be open to individuals who have experienced power-based interpersonal violence, and we ask that you register in advance.
